Chinese New Year Parade on February 19

The Chinese New Year Parade is coming up this Saturday, February 19 from 5:15 to 8 p.m. The parade route starts on Market Street and passes a few of our parks including Union, St. Mary's and Portsmouth squares. Named one of the top 10 parades in the world by the International Festivals & Events Association, the Alaska Airlines Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco is one of the few remaining night illuminated parades in North America and the biggest parade celebrating the Lunar New Year outside of Asia. Be sure to check out the parade, as well as the Chinese Chamber of Commerce's public art project, Tiger on Parade. Six life-sized tigers are displayed around San Francisco, including in our parks at Union and Portsmouth squares, as well as next to Civic Center Plaza at the Asian Art Museum.
