Put your skates on and join us for a community celebration at Skatin' Place in Golden Gate Park this Saturday, June 18, from 11 a.m. to noon, as we officially reopen the famous roller skating spot after installing a psychedelic ground mural on the newly repaved asphalt. The mural, by artist and longtime skater Aimee Brucker Stevland, pays tribute to the history of roller skating in Golden Gate Park. It is as colorful, vibrant and fun as the skating community who has been making magic there for decades. The minimalist design also serves a purpose: providing spatial orientation for skaters to maintain their balance as they circle around and over it. The durable coating surface is expected to give the mural longevity to ward off peeling and fading—even with heavy traffic. The weather resistant coating will also allow for easy maintenance and retouching. This event is hosted in partnership with The Church of 8 Wheels. Skatin' Place is located on the new JFK Promenade in Golden Gate Park near 6th Avenue and Fulton.
