The festival will feature traditional performing arts groups representing different regions of Africa and the African diaspora. The lineup will include some of the Bay Area’s premier dance companies, including: Afro-Urban Society, Shabbal, Chinyakare Ensemble, Fua dia Congo, Diamano Coura, Águas Dance Company, Duniya Dance & Drum Company and The Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts World Music + Dance departments.

Community vendors will sell traditional wares such as clothing, instruments, jewelry, and food. Public service and advocacy groups will also be on hand to present their services. Duniya first presented the festival in 2013 as a street fair in San Francisco’s Mission neighborhood, and relocated to McLaren Park for the festival in 2016 to accommodate a larger stage and more children’s activities, such as face-painting and children’s dance and drum lessons. The venue offers a free parking lot and street parking, as well as disability access. Please note that glass bottles are not permitted in the park.

Duniya Dance & Drum Company is partnering with Friends of the Amphitheater at McLaren Park (AMP) to present this year’s African Arts Festival. African Arts Festival is generously funded by San Francisco Grants for the Arts Neighborhood Arts Collaborative grant, the California Arts Council, and our supportive donors.
