Prison Mail Night

Thursday, September 9th, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. RSVP to elliot@ellabakercenter.org for Zoom link so we know how many people to plan for! We've added the 7,000th person from a California prison to our mailing list! When COVID started a year and a half ago we had around 2,000 people in state prisons. Thank you to all our volunteers for helping us respond to all these letters. We need all the help we can get, so please join us at our next virtual mail night. We will be sending in information about the pandemic and advocating for release, and respond to questions about new laws, upcoming legislation, reentry, and legal support.

Mutual Aid Day - Oakland Sunday, September 26, 11am-3pm Location TBD - Register to volunteer here This year the Ella Baker Center is partnering with various organizations and hosting a series of in-person mutual aid events across Alameda County. As we know, the pandemic has only further exacerbated racial & socio-economic inequalities in our communities. So many of our neighbors are not safe as they face food insecurity and struggle to keep a roof over their head. Despite this clear public health crisis, Alameda County & city officials continue to push a false narrative of public safety. We know that the safest communities are not the ones with the most police, but the ones with the most resources. Join us at our next mutual aid day event as we support & uplift our community members. You can volunteer in-person, virtually or both. Register here.
