SPOKES is a body of young people who actively participate in Youth Speaks programs and give us feedback, help us imagine, and plan our activities and events throughout the year. In other words, SPOKES is Youth Speaks' youth advisory board!
Each year, ten Bay Area youth join SPOKES to grow as cultural organizers and arts practitioners by using their leadership skills to make the world more just, liberatory, and fun for their communities.
As restrictions regarding safety around the COVID-19 pandemic shift, we will find ways to shift our programming to ensure the safety and well-being of our youth participants and staff. SPOKES will advise the programs team on events and activities throughout the school year as well as learn to host open mics, lead workshops, and plan the annual Backyard Conference in June 2024.
Please note: This year's application is ONLY open to students between the ages of 13-21 that live in San Francisco, Alameda County, Contra Costa County, Marin County, San Mateo County, Santa Clara County, or Solano County. All Youth Speaks events for the 23-24 programmatic year will take place in either San Francisco or Oakland.
