One Bay: Youth Action Summit, set for October 23 here at Menlo School, is developing to be a powerful event. See below for info on our inspiring guest speakers.
To be clear, a delegation of YOUR STUDENTS attending is essential to the Summit and the work of creating a more just, sustainable and peaceful Bay Area for all and to be a model for other regions.
You represent San Jose, Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, Milpitas, Menlo Park, San Francisco and Berkeley. We need representatives from all subregions of the Bay, so please share this with your colleagues at other schools.

EVENT UPDATES: BRILLIANT AND INSPIRING SPEAKERS ARE CONFIRMED
The Summit's theme is "Building Beloved Community in the Bay Area." The Martin Luther King Jr. Papers Institute at Stanford University has thus provided suggested readings that attendees will read beforehand and discuss at the conference. As well, director of the Institute, Dr. Clayborne Carson will speak briefly, answer questions with students and help them discuss and decide on actions to take in the afternoon.
Our keynote speaker in the morning is Pastor Michael McBride of Berkeley, born in San Francisco. He is an uplifting and inspiring interfaith leader, director of the Live Free Campaign, and often appears on CNN or other news outlets as a thought leader in addressing gun violence and incarceration of young people of color. His talk will surely light a fire in the bellies of the summit attendees.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This summit is designed to bring highly motivated activist students together as a kickoff to campaigns/actions that students will design in collaboration with each other and existing local organizations to leverage their power for effective change and impact in the Bay Area. They will be supported in this effort by the volunteer staff of One Bay, which will become an informal organization.
Please start getting paperwork in order and start sharing this opportunity NOW with students who you think would be hyped and committed for this opportunity. We want your most passionate, activist students. Your climate change action champions, your activist artists, your students who are channeling their anger around systemic and police violence against people of color, homeless/affordable housing, education inequity or gun violence into ACTION. These students may not be on your school leadership team. Consider club leaders or marginalized students who could be UPLIFTED and EMPOWERED and more deeply ENGAGED by this Summit.
We sincerely hope you'll join us for this powerful event. We know our students are hungry to make real change in the world on urgent issues NOW. One Bay will provide valuable tools and network for that, including a fair of Bay Area organizations that are doing amazing work to uplift our communities, pass legislation, and offer exciting opportunities to Summit attendees.
