Reading Partners Connects

Dear Reading Partners community,

We hope you have been staying healthy and safe this summer. The new school year is fast approaching, and we are happy to share the latest updates from our school districts as well as what we have been working on at Reading Partners over the last few months.

We have 25 school partners who are ready and excited to partner with us for another school year. Reading Partners has been a trusted partner in our communities for over 20 years, and we have reimagined our program so that we can continue to support our students and their families through distance learning and beyond.

Introducing Reading Partners Connects

We recently learned that our partner school districts (In San Francisco, Oakland, South SF, and San Leandro) have all committed to beginning the school year with offering only distance learning for students. We have adapted to meet the needs of our schools in this critical time and are proud to launch “Reading Partners Connects,” our innovative online tutoring program.

Reading Partners Connects will allow Reading Partners to continue to serve students in an online environment using our evidence-based curriculum. Content will integrate our trusted curriculum skills and lessons into innovative presentations to optimize student engagement and incorporate social-emotional learning (SEL) opportunities through relationship-building with tutors. Our team has been hard at work training to onboard tutors so that we can launch this virtual tutoring platform once the school year begins.

Summer Updates

With students even more heavily impacted by summer learning loss than normal due to the pandemic, we prioritized providing critical summer literacy support to our communities. Through our take reading with you program, so far, we have distributed over 2,300 books and counting to students and their families at food distribution sites near our partner schools this summer.

While we are proud of the work we did this spring to quickly pivot and continue supporting our students, we know Reading Partners Connects will be even more impactful for students. Relationship building is at the core of Reading Partners and will ensure we continue to deliver strong programming that will push the needle with students who will benefit from one-on-one instruction with our curriculum in a virtual setting. We are innovating at a rapid pace, and you will be hearing more from us as we continue navigating the ambiguity of the coming school year together. We know that it will be a year of learning, but we are ready to lean into our value of “big challenges are our thing.”
