To whom it may concern,
We are Eva, Jayjay, and Sonia, students and members of the Riot Conference committee at UHS. The Riot Conference focuses on the intersection of race and feminism.
On Saturday, March 21st, Riot will be hosting our fourth annual Riot Conference at University High School. Our conference aims to help break down barriers for female students of color that inhibit them from reaching their full potential. This year’s theme is "Together We Rise." Through this theme, we want to explore the importance of allyship within communities of women of color and create an open space for girls to delve deeper into the issues girls of color face.
Students who attend will participate in a workshop, hear from two keynote speakers, and have the opportunity to speak to a panel of amazing women of color working in medicine, technology, and more. This year, our speakers are Malini K Singh (Vice Chief of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Associate Professor of Medicine at the UCSF School of Medicine) and Aarti Shahani (NPR Contributor, Author of Here We Are: American Dreams, American Nightmare).
We are reaching out to you to invite your students who self-identify as women of color to apply to our conference! Please share this message with any applicable students.
Online applications are due by February 21st, 2020, at 3:30 PM: https://forms.gle/5Cb1bp7bbCbbuody8
