SF Public Works | Community Programs Initiatives

San Francisco Public Works is excited to announce the return of our Community Programs initiatives! These have been a difficult few months for many reasons, but it is in times like these that communities like San Francisco show their true strength and camaraderie. We've spent the past few months developing and refining protocols that allow both volunteers and Public Works staff to help make San Francisco a more beautiful place to live, in a socially-distanced manner. Here are some of the changes we've made:

  • Face masks and gloves will be mandatory at all events.

  • All volunteer and Public Works staff must maintain a proper social distance of 6 feet apart at all times.

  • Events will feature groups of volunteers no larger than twelve per group.

  • All equipment will be sanitized before it is handed out and sharing equipment is prohibited.

Our first event is the 2020 Graffiti Wipeout, which will be held city-wide on Saturday, August 29 from 9am to 12 noon. We've identified seven areas that need graffiti abatement:

Location 1:  Broadway Tunnel and surrounding areas (street furniture along Polk St.).  Location 2: Black Wall @ 5th and Bryant St. (for volunteers ages 13 & over, as this zone is near a freeway onramp).  Location 3: Fillmore St. between Pine and Lombard. Location 4: Mission St. Between 16th and 24th. Location 5: San Bruno Overpass and Bayshore Wall (under a tunnel at San Bruno & Paul and (right next to it) a wall along Bayshore).  Location 6: Alemany and Crystal St. Underpass (this location also offers volunteers the option to do litter pickup). Location 7: Fences Along the 4000 Block of 19th ave. and the 1100 block of Junipero Serra blvd.

You can sign up to volunteer at one of the sites online. To register for this event, or if you'd like additional information, please visit our website or click the button above. In light of the recent heat wave and humidity we've been experiencing, please remember to bring an adequate supply of water. If you have any additional questions, comments, or concerns, you can respond directly to this email.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing and working with you soon!
