Friends -- Yesterday, the Supreme Court issued the most significant legal ruling for trans people in American history. In a 6-3 decision, the Court ruled that it is now illegal to fire someone just because they’re transgender. This victory is bittersweet though because it comes on the heels of even more violence perpetrated against Black trans women. Over the weekend, thousands took to the streets to remember Dominique Rem’mie Fells and Riah Milton, two Black transgender women who were murdered last week. And according to the ACLU, 19 Black trans women were murdered last year. This horrific wave of violence against the trans community -- and the Black trans community in particular -- cannot be ignored.
