Breaking the Silence: A Night of Stories, Connection and LGBTQ+ Activism

April 23, 2022, 7:30-9:30pm

Manny’s, 3092 16th Street, SF (in the Mission)

At this celebration of the voices of LGBTQ+ youth and the resilience of our community, teens from across the Bay Area will gather to express their stories through art, music, poetry, or any other way they choose. In the spirit of embodying the Jewish value of Betzelem Elohim (the belief that all people are created in the divine image) we will hear from leaders in the SF LGBTQ+ community, hold space for teens to share their stories through performance, and participate in community building activities based in social justice through a Jewish lens. In addition, we will participate in collective action to combat recent anti-LGBT legislation. Whether you want to perform or just enjoy a night in a safe community, we would love to see you there!

Bare Necessities: Collecting Needed Supplies for Unhoused Youth

Wed, April 27, 4:00 - 5:30 pm

JFCS YouthFirst, 2245 Post St, San Francisco, CA 94115

As youth ourselves, we find it powerful to do whatever we can to offer support to people our age that are currently facing homelessness. We are excited to collect donations from YOU for unhoused youth being served at Larkin Street Youth Services in San Francisco. By collecting donations that are top needs (men’s boxer shorts, hoodies and sweatpants, and toothpaste) we are embodying and holding up the important Jewish value of Kavod (dignity). At this event we will be collecting, sorting and packing donated items as well as learn and reflect deeply about this issue by discussing first-person testimony.

We’re excited to invite 8th graders to learn from YouthFirst Teen Leaders about how to manage the stresses of starting high school. The Jewish value of Shmirat Hagoof teaches us the importance of caring for our bodies and minds. At this event we will learn techniques for self-care and maintaining wellness, spend time enjoying the outdoors, and participate in community service with the SF Rec and Park Department.
