I'm writing this to ask for your help in remotely tutoring middle schoolers from under-resourced schools. This form of academic assistance is in urgent need as many students are falling behind educationally given the reality of remote learning and lack of support.
I'm a volunteer and coordinator at the Urban Remote Tutors program which connects passionate volunteers with students in need over video sessions. I've been a video tutor for the past three years and it has been a really great learning and enriching experience for both me and the 6th grader I work with.
Most tutoring sessions are an hour-long and the time and date are flexible. Volunteers would be working individually or in small groups with 5th and 6th graders on subjects like reading comprehension and math. Ideally, volunteers would work weekly with the same students but any time, even a single isolated session, would be greatly valued.
