Students' art will be displayed alongside other students from this session as we celebrate the hard work and beautiful artwork they have created. There will be free live artmaking workshops and a pop up portrait studio with @autumnswisherphotography.

Creative Youth Awards Applications Open Now
Through the 2024 Creative Youth Awards (CYA), the Bay Area Creative Foundation is awarding $100,000 to Bay Area high school artists in creative writing, dance, film, music performance, original music, photography, and visual art. $100,000 will be awarded to artists this year!
Submissions will be capped at the first 2,500 received
Students are limited to 1 entry
Submissions open: October 2, 2023
Submissions close: December 13, 2023
Busy and fun times this fall at YAX! On October 15th, we welcomed our community to celebrate the opening of YAX Studios at La Fénix (1950 Mission).With guest speakers including our Youth Advisory Board Member Jennifer Mendoza (pictured at top), Denise Pate from the San Francisco Arts Commission, Sam Moss from Mission Housing, performances by Rojai &The Pocket, Sambaxé, and Cuicacalli, along with artmaking with artists Christo Oropeza, Minnie Phan, and Martin Melvar, it was an inspiring way to launch one of our the first of our two new spaces. And on November 2nd, we celebrated Día de los Muertos with free altar making activities at YAX Studios at Kapuso in the Excelsior.
We're excited to share that the first phase of YAX Studios at La Fénix has been completed with improvements to our main gallery, architecture lab, photography darkroom, and two small galleries/classroom spaces. We're working hard on raising remaining funds to finish the youth lounge, music production studio, and finishes throughout. Donate here to support our capital and capacity project!
