YAX's Celebrating Black Artists Series continues! Join Marisol Catchings for a textile earring workshop on February 24th! In this free 2-hour workshop for ages 12+, you will learn to craft easy-to-make Aztec & African textile earrings. These earrings are lightweight and super fun to create!


About Marisol Catchings-Frank:


Marisol Catchings-Frank is a San Francisco Bay Area artist and entrepreneur. She is the owner and creator of Azteca Negra, an art and accessories business that celebrates African ancestry in Latin America, as well as co-founder of Just BE, a community for Black Women Entrepreneurs. Marisol is best known for her art and most recently for her community-centered, Masks for Healthcare Campaign, which provides free handcrafted face masks to healthcare and frontline workers. She has been featured by Cosmopolitan, CNN, Telemundo, and many online publications for this community work. It is Marisol’s passion to create positive reflections of Black and Latinx cultures through art, and to uplift and create opportunities for Black and Brown entrepreneurs to create sustainable businesses.

Learn to Samba with our very own Raffaella, YAX Executive Director! Engage your mind, body, and spirit while learning the fundamentals of several Brazilian styles of dance and rhythms. Each dance style is broken down step by step. The level of the class (Beginning, Intermediate, or Advanced) will depend on the level of the students that attend each class and will be adjusted accordingly. This class will focus on learning Samba in a fun and safe environment. Absolute beginners are welcome!


Please register on Eventbrite to save your spot—each class will be capped at 12 dancers per class as part of the shelter-in-place mandate to maintain social distancing.

Happy Lunar New Year! It's the Year of the Ox!


Come join us for this free workshop to create fabulous Lunar New Year Lanterns. Part of the fun of this project is to treasure hunt your supplies from around your house and recycling bin. You'll need a glass or plastic container. Look for any kind of colorful paper, like junk mail, giftwrap, magazines, envelopes, clean food wrappers, cereal boxes and napkins. Traditional Lunar New Year colors are red, yellow, gold, black and white with other colors sprinkled in. The project is open to your imagination!

Celebrate Valentine's Day with a virtual Print & Sip workshop, hosted by YAX printmaker Alyssa Aviles and Bar Part Time! Create your own block print to make prints and cards with your very own design. General admission includes the [x] Print Kit, which will be mailed directly to your home in time for the workshop.


Don't forget about the "sip" part! We're excited to partner with Bar Part Time, a natural wine delivery service based in San Francisco which aims to focus on natural wines with an approachable wine concept.
